I have learnt my lesson. I always warm up and i always take it easy when stretching, until i know i am ready... I have injured myself once before, and i didn't let it heal properly, and i injured it again... I dont' want to repeat that mistake again, so i sometimes wonder if i am perhaps overly cautious... But better safe than sorry... I'd rather take it easy and stretch another day, then push too hard and have to take a month off to let it heal...
Thanks! that seems to be quite helpful advice! Its only in the last couple of months that i have felt my middlesplits start to improve, it took me quite awhile, but then again, its also quite frustrating when you don't really know what stretches to do and when to do certain stretches and how long to hold other stretches... But i guess the only way you can really learn is by trying the stretches... Do you ever read or watch television when stretching?
Wow, thats amazing! Seriously, what is the secret to middlesplits? I have been working on those forever, and they are progressing, but the pace is horrendously slow... For some reason am i convinced there is a magic incantation you say before you slide down into splits, but i suspect that you are going to tell me that there is no such thing as a short cut middlesplit... Can you put your feet behind your head? People don't see that as a serious contortion move, but more as something you do for fun, or because its funny...
You certainly have amazing flexibility!! Are you fussy when it comes to splits? Are you someone who believes that splits can only be called splits once they are flat on the ground, comfortable and square? I am often dissapointed when someone proudly exclaim that they can do splits, but then when they do them, they are still hanging in the air, back leg bend, and their upperbody all twisting to the side... Do you have your middlesplits?
Wow, thats a lof hours a day, but then again, if you're having fun, time does fly... You probably don't even notice the time going by... So what stretches do you generally do when you are stretching?
I know what you mean. It seems there are a lot of inactive people out there :(
Have you changed your mind about cirque du soleil? It is very prestigious and very difficult to get in... I dont stretch because i have any such ambitions. I have acknowledged my limitations a long time ago, so for me now, its just a hobby that i take quite serious. I want to see how far i can take it before my body gives in. Besides, i have been training for so long now, i can't see myself not stretching...
Wow! Thats really good! Did you ever suspect that you might have had natural flexibility before trying that? It definitely makes stretching a lot easier. Getting over the first stretching hurdle is often the toughes, trying to get that first improvement. So having natural flexibility definitely helps you over that hurdle... How is your frontbending? Or would you rather focus and specialize in backbending at this stage?
I like your answer! Because it seems a lot of people didn't do gymnastics or dance or cheerleading and flexible through hard work. What i do find interesting, is that people who did gymnastics or dance or cheerleading don't often maintain their flexibiilty into their twenties or thirties. It seems the people who do maintain their flexiblility are more likely to be people have are self taught. I guess you appreciate it more, and you recognize the effort you put into you stretching and training to begin with...
So what are you current stretching goals? And whats your favourite stretch at the moment, if its possible to select one from a wide array of options?
How did you get started with stretching and contortion? Did you do gymnastics or ballet? It seems that a lot of people get their introduction to stretching through dance and gymnastics. I never did do gymnastics, but i remember that there was a time that i wanted to ask my parents if i could start gymnastics... never got to it, but there are plenty of other ways of getting flexible...
