Hey! :D

How is your stretching going? So far things have been pretty will for me. I have improved a bit, and i have gained a bit more confidence... I haven't broken or set any records yet, but atleast i still feel that my goals are within reach... That middlesplit finally seems to be improving, i have been working on that one for so long...

Its funny though, you have those good days and bad days, and its the same with motivation. There are times when i am motivated, and other times when i am just plain lazy. So what really keeps me motivated, or keeps me going on with stretching, is that its very relaxing. So for me its really more a hobby and a part time activity. But i have to admit that every bit of progress always keeps me motivated. The consistency in my training is really what keeps me back, although i don't always have time to stretch. And the weather outside is also an important determinant. So in the summer i stretch more than in the winter, because i most often stretch at the end of day, in the evening... And then also, being able to do that is a lot of motivation in-itself, lol...

What are your goals? both short-term and long term

I know exactly what you mean. I have been there too with the injuries and the pain and the trying to see if its healed, but you really know it isn't, and then trying it anyway... Been there, done that... I think that seems to be the paradox of stretching, that you want to push yourself, but you also have to work within the limits of your ability, because once you try to push it further, thats often when injuries happen. But its funn though, because i have had injuries that weren't caused by stretching... lol... really from cycling, or running, picking up a heavy box incorrectly... So there is a plethora of ways you can injure yourself, without stretching...

Do you stretch on your own, of do you stretch with a friend or in a group? I tend to prefer stretching on my own, although i sometimes think that had i had a partner, i might have had more help and improved a bit more...

I also started stretching at home on my own, but i still think that had i joined a gymnastics class or a yoga class or discovered the internet at a younger age, i might started stretching correctly at a younger age. It was only when i was 19 that i really started stretching "smarter", because i would always rush the stretches, not always warm up properly.

Did you find stretching easy in the beginning? Did you feel progress quite fast?

For me it was a bit different, progress on really happened later on, so in the beginning i focussed on smaller stuff, like lotus. Thats really where everything started for me...

Hey!

So how did you start with stretching and contortion? Is it something that you have always done and you just wanted to take it a step further?
